Google Maps – Mount Vancomun from Barracks
Wonderful summer day to reach the green meadows of the Vancomun di Visdende. We start from Casera Chiastellin, along the road of the malghe, in an easterly direction, at the first hollow, we leave it and climb along old military paths without trail markers, until we reach the entrance to the Great Valley, where we visit the remains of the old barracks of the 7th Regiment Alpini and numerous lakes that form with the spring thaw, and then disappear as the warm season progresses. We cut to the right going up and we reach the Italian-Austrian border at the Fork Valgrande. Now we turn west on the Traversata Carnica in the direction of Peak Vancomun crossing small and simple stretches with a metal safety rope. We return through Valley Carnia up to the road of the malghe.
